I think both holding creative merit. But I was also thinking of the creative use of something like the RGB LED DMX lighiting used in stage setups, and they are more adaptable and brighter than video products, here is some examples.

All the lighting is 4 colour LED, and with most of it having DMX total, so you can dial up colours and do flash effects and washs on the fly, on even perfectly timed lighting effects.

good find. I am looking for LED lighting, but the pricing so far it is at best $1 for 1 LED, which turns to significant money for 500+ LED lights. DIY is even more expensive. Glad to hear that there are cheaper products available.
