It is a SERIOUS tool.
The picture is larger than 1:1 (depending on your screen resolution... we have a hard time calling it a "pocket camera" anymore. It became a serious tool.

Jim, will it still be 3 pounds?

As long as it does what it says in current specs, I don't care if it's 10 pounds!

I was just curious, because I will have a remote control airplane custom built for the Scarlet.
I wasn't going to have it made til the final specs are released, I just wanted to know what two expect.
NO 10 POUNDS PLEASE!!! hehe

I am sure when the technology gets more advanced it will be possible to shrink a 3k camera down to pocket size.

I am actually glad it is a bit larger because we will have more stable handheld shots!

Thats nuts dude! You must be a good RC pilot, because those things crash all the time.

I'm not, but I have a good friend that builds helicopters, and planes all the time.
The Scarlet has to be bullet-proof though.

I've a friend in the US who shoots aerial footage. You may find that if the zoom mechanism floats in the lens via the use of magnets (hover-train style, like in the HVX200) and the picture will be totally unusable. (like watching Drop Zone while totally hammered drunk, or rollerblading over gravel)

Well, it is still smaller than all prosumer cameras and it does a ton more than the full size 100k cameras... It really never was anything than a serious tool, in the right hands.
I personally don't care how big so long as it is about the size of a DVX-100 or HPX-170... that size allows for a very good camera once you add the rest of the accessories necessary. And about the weight... personally, the heavier the better for me.

Was anyone really expecting it to fit in their pocket? Or care?

"We are making it a Serious Tool" is what Jim said, saying it to reason the larger form.

Larger than what? They never indicated a size before this, did they?
I don't think anyone here seriously doubted that they were making it a serious tool...
Also Scarlet is only going to be 3k, not 100k...
I've never seen a 100k camera. Even the "big" projectors can only handle 4k right now anyway, right?

hmmm... I remember just the other day when someone (I think it was jim himself) posted a render along with a coke-can for scale-reference... and judging by that, and my HV20 and a coke-can of myself I realized that to call it pocket-sized isn't that hard even now... I think I would fit it in my jacket-pocket without too much trouble... not my shirt-pocket, by any means, but why would I want that anyways?;)
you wouldn't believe how much junk fits inside my jacket pockets;)

Well, if you've already have a RED ONE, then you've already got "big pockets". Hehe
Big pockets, though.....

Well if you had a fanny pack that could be concidered to be a pocket. Close enough for me.

If you have a RED ONE, that only means you USED TO HAVE big pockets.

I'm really glad it's not a pocket cam...The Bigger the Better...
I wanna look like I actually have kick ass camera on set!!
Plus, with the Current design...It looks like something the Predator would take on holiday! (which is a good thing)

as long as it stays under $3k, it's still within my pocket :)

Size shouldn't matter. Besides.... if you're going to add those 35mm adapters, you'd already be looking kickass.
If anything, I'd want a smaller camera so that I can add a junk load of accessories to make it worthwhile :happyhappy:

Size does matter.
When the cameras start getting TOO small, they are harder to hold and manipulate.
Same if they are too light in weight.
Just under 3lbs -- OK...
Less than 1lb -- I'd really start to worry... particularly if I'm shooting unsupported. I'd want to tie something to the camera to add more weight to it so that my shaky hands don't blur all the footage.
Another reason for big, heavy SLR still cams: the little toy cameras that most of the world is using now are too small, too light for me. I only seem to get blurry shots on the rare occasion I even try using them. So I don't even bother with them anymore.

You should see the coat I have. I can put (2) 20oz. sodas in each pocket. It would definitely hold a Scarlet.

I dunno. The Borg seemed to do OK. :)
