We don't have the best track record of making projected release dates. In many instances, we announce something and then frustrate our customers by being late. We now find ourselves not wanting to talk about a lot of things currently in development. But you should know that there are a ton of things going on behind the scenes.

We recently asked for "test pilots" to try out our new color science. About a week later there is a build for everyone to work with. Then, soon after, there is a full download package called Build 20 available. This seems like a much better approach to "announcement and release" compared to our old way of doing things.

If we feel fairly certain of hitting our targets in a timely fashion, we'll tell you about it. RED Rocket is an example.

But going forward we are not likely to announce or give out dates of things we are working on until just before they are ready. The exception would be something we need a lot of customer feedback on (like Scarlet & EPIC)... but even then we'll try to get closer to completion before talking about it and asking for feedback.

We really appreciate our customers and their patience with us as we are building a camera company from scratch. It has been much more complicated and difficult than ever imagined. We are always trying to find ways to improve our business. That includes how we communicate with our partners and customers.

This was bound to happen. (and it should happen) but it was nice seeing things at much earlier a stage than normal. It was fun while it lasted! Thanks!

As frustrated as missed release dates may have been the results seem far worth it. Looking at the original conception of the Scarlet, to what it is becoming now, at least for me, is mind blowing for what I want out of a camera, and what I can afford.

RED's open and honest approach to their customers is amazing, and I look forward to owning your camera when it is ready.

So you can't tell us if internal Red Ray drives will come with the new Mac Pros in 2010? Well, crap! :badputer:

So we wont know if scarlet 3.0 is really an industrial strength drink mixer and not a camera until 24 hours before it hits market? Shucks...

I kid, I kid... But if no one is going to remember the tech, we might as well pursue something that helps us not remember the purchase either.

Guys the basic modular design of the camera system is not going to change radically from what we have already seen as prototypes in the photos from NAB. What they are concentrating on now is ergonomic refinements, the electronics and software. The release of Graeme's new color science software is a good example. Its the critical things that affect performance and image quality as well as making the transition from prototype to production that is occupying them at this point.

I agree 100% David. The simple fact that they have not said anything in a long time really shows that there is just simply too much that they are working on for them to even begin to comment on it.
I am proud to say that I was one of the privileged to experience the excitement of 12/3 and all that jazz.
However, I am also just glad that RED is now focusing more on becoming the kind of company that all great companies were born to do, make the best thing that they think they can, and then release it to the public, with asking for feedback on a personal note in their products after they were released (i.e. Apple) and most of the time they get it right and far beyond what people were hoping for in the first place.

If it wasn't for Red and the revolutionary Scarlet, I may have tired out and just got another camera.... Keep the patience and planning and preparing for the day.
